Rev. Angela Johnson is a native of Louisville, KY.  The oldest of 4 children, she graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in August 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design and a Minor in Business Administration.

Rev. Angela Johnson is a December 2013 graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree, and a May 2014 graduate of the Seminary with a Certificate in Black Church Studies.  Rev. Johnson began her Doctoral studies in Ministry in January 2017 at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

She is a member of the Mid-KY Presbytery Education Unit, and of the Abigail Initiative, a cohort of African-American women ministers sponsored by the College of Pastoral Leaders at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.  She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Council of Churches as a PC(USA) member-at-large, is a member of the Pastoral Advisory Committee of the Clinical Pastoral Education Dept. of Baptist Healthcare Louisville, and is the President of the Louisville Area Chapter of the National Black Presbyterian Caucus.

She is the current Pastor of the Grace Hope Presbyterian Church at 702 E. Breckinridge St. in the historic Smoketown area of Louisville.  Grace Hope celebrated its 120th church anniversary in March 2018, and is the oldest African-American Presbyterian Church in Louisville.

Rev. Johnson has been married to Doug Johnson for 37 years and is the mother of 2 adult sons.  She retired in August 2013, after 34 years of service as an Interior Designer at the University of Louisville to fulfill God’s call to pastoral ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Her obedience to God through her pastoral calling has been shaped by 1Peter 5:2-4 NLT, ‘Care for the flock of God entrusted to you.  Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly – not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.  Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example.  And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor.’
